HELLO!
SPRING IS FINALLY TRYING TO MAKE AN APPEARANCE! IT SEEMS LIKE IT'S BEEN A LONG WINTER…
IT WAS WONDERFUL TO HAVE SUCH A GOOD TURN OUT AT OUR ANNUAL PANCAKE SUPPER LAST MONTH! OUR GUEST SPEAKER, BRETT BOLLINGER, WAS UNABLE TO ATTEND DUE TO ILLNESS, BUT MAYBE WE CAN RESCHEDULE HIM FOR LATER. WE WATCHED ONE OF THE TAPES WHILE WE WERE EATING AND OF COURSE HAD BEEKEEPING DEBATES AFTER!
THIS IS AN IMPORTANT TIME OF YEAR, TO KEEP TABS ON YOUR BEES! MAKE SURE THEY HAVE PLENTY TO EAT! IF THE HIVE FEELS LIKE ITS GETTING LIGHT BY LIFTING A SIDE, YOU PROBABLY NEED TO ADD SOME CANDY BOARDS OR FONDANT. I'LL INCLUDE A RECIPE I PUT IN LAST YEAR FOR THE FONDANT,OR YOU CAN PURCHASE IT, IN NORWALK AT THE "SHIELDS IGA" STORE. IT'S FOUND IN THE BAKERY. CALL JOHN SCHICK FOR MORE INFORMATION IF NEEDED.
Fondant Candy Recipe
Microwave Recipe (feeds 1 or 2 colonies)
In a 1 qrt. or larger microwave dish, thoroughly mix 1 & ˝ cups granulated sugar and ˝ cup light corn syrup. No water. Microwave on high, stirring every few minutes until the mixture is clear and bubbles become thumbnail size (about 10 minutes). Stop immediately if the mixture starts to brown. A wooden spoon is very effective for stirring, as it can be left in the dish during cooking.
Pour into a mold made from cardboard or a container lined with paper to cool. The candy will become brittle and can be slipped on top of frames where the bees will consume it.

"SILENCE OF THE BEES". I'VE HEARD IT’S A GREAT DOCUMENTARY, SO COME TO THE MEETING AND ENJOY ANOTHER LEARNING EXPERIENCE! I'M GLAD THAT THE MEDIA IS MAKING THE PUBLIC MORE AWARE OF THE BEES, THEIR IMPORTANCE IN THE FOOD CHAIN, AND ALL THEIR OBSTACLES THEY MUST ENDURE.

The recipe for April!
Broiled Lemon-Honey Chicken Breasts
4 servings from NHB
Ingredients:
1/4 cup honey
1/4 cup lemon juice
2 teaspoons vegetable oil
1 teaspoon rosemary, crushed
1 teaspoon grated lemon peel
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/8 teaspoon pepper
4 (3-1/2 to 4 oz. each) boneless, skinless chicken breast.
Combine all ingredients (except chicken) and mix well. Marinate chicken in honey-lemon mixture 1 hour in shallow baking dish. Broil chicken 5 minutes, brush with pan drippings, turn and broil 5 minutes longer or until juices run clear. If desired, bring marinade to a boil; simmer 2 minutes. Strain hot marinade over chicken.
