The hive stand keeps them off the ground and dry. Water for the bees is available in the center with large rocks to allow them safe access. Two rows of pine trees provide windbreak.
These hives have been placed in a large apple orchard and are used for pollination purposes. The apples only bloom for a short period of time so timing is important. They must be removed shortly after the blooms are gone because most farmers spray the trees and it's best if the bees are gone at that point.
