As I write this newsletter the sun is glistening on the freshly fallen foot of snow we received in the past couple of days. I've not given up hope for spring yet, for I have seen some of the limbs on our apple trees with some swollen tips! Oh PLEASE let there be a bud in there!! I've also walked by the hives out back and they have already started to clean house!

I must remind my resident beekeeper to ck and make sure they have enough food, for the next couple of months could be rough for them!

John Schick is taking orders for California package bees. They have Italians and Carnelians (same price) Deadline for ordering is mid March. They will be delivered in mid April.

2# pkgs. @$70 and the 3# pkgs. @$83

Cash or a check in full must be with order.

John's address: 4847 Huber Rd., Norwalk, OH 44857

Our President patted our backs at the last meeting!  He said there are 41 beekeeping clubs in Ohio and only 12 have web sites. We're one of them!! Great fete considering our size!! Thanks John!

Our main agenda at this meeting is to organize the beekeeping class we are going to be putting on April 9th and 16th.

The classes are taking place at Bill and Carolyn Allinders', Gibsonburg,OH.

The class is limited to 20. The cost will be $45. Includes book, catalogs & information sheets, a club hat when they finish, and a membership for the rest of the year.

The classes are divided up into 10 topics;

1. About Bees - (queen, drones & workers )

2. Beekeeping Equipment -ex. plastic? wood?

3. Ohio Apiary laws - are you legal??

4. Yard Locations - where did I put them?

5. Bee management - how long do I keep her?

6. Buying Bees - they cost how much?

7. Safety - get my epi pen quick!

8. Disease and Pest - flu shots for bees?

9. Products of the hive - you sell that too?

10.  Record Keeping - no. not the IRS kind!

We would really appreciate, if you could pick out a class you feel you could teach. If you don't want to do a class alone, ask another member to help you, two heads are always better than one, and easier to present your ideas across to the class.

They will also, learn there are a lot of techniques to keeping bees!

Make it fun…you always remember things having a good time, and not boring! A lot of the classes can be kept down to a 20 minute session…then have a question and answer part. If you can do more than one class that would be wonderful! Some might want to assist someone, that’s great too! We will take all the help we can get…organizing, setting up, or just being an aid!! Of course you know we will have food if you’re a food driven person….bribery?? tsk …tsk….(what ever works…..)

Speaking of food, I can smell the pancakes and Maple Syrup already! Hope to see you Monday night! Always great food and the best in fellowship this side of the border!

No, I didn't forget the recipe!
